Dr. Şennur Günay Aksoy, who participated in a Habertürk broadcast, evaluated the Preschool and 1st Grade Adaptation Program

Dr. Şennur Günay Aksoy, the Head of the Psychology Department at our university, evaluated the adaptation program prepared by the Ministry of National Education for preschool and 1st-grade students on the Habertürk channel. During the broadcast, topics such as the goals of the adaptation week, behaviors to avoid during the adaptation process, and how students' adaptation can be supported were discussed.

Dr. Aksoy emphasized that each new academic year marks a period when children grow a year older and showcase the knowledge and skills they have acquired. She noted that the developmental characteristics and needs change during this process, bringing about a new adaptation period. She specifically pointed out that this process is much more complex for preschool and 1st-grade students who are starting school for the first time. Dr. Aksoy also stressed that, for students in other grades, reuniting with friends and teachers after the long summer break and starting an unknown process can present challenges.

Dr. Aksoy highlighted that anxiety is particularly prevalent for preschool and 1st-grade students, and that the transition from a safe family environment to an unknown setting causes complex emotions in children. She emphasized the importance of communication with children and the orientation processes established in cooperation between schools and families during this period.
